Back to School Details
|At some point in the month of August, the thoughts of both parents and children inevitably start to drift towards “back to school”. Starting kindergarten can bring some anxiety for both parents and children, so we try to ease this transition as much as possible as we welcome families into our community kindergarten program.
Our Staff: (Kristine Scherpenisse) and program administrator (Heather Ford) have had the opportunity to meet and speak with both parents and children through our open house and registration process. They should now be somewhat familiar faces, and our classroom and the community centre playground a familiar location. We are also happy to report that Mrs. Vicky Tejada will be joining us for the upcoming school year as our new teacher’s assistant. We are confident she will quickly become a favourite with both children and parents and is a wonderful addition to our team!
Home Visits: Mrs. Scherpenisse has also now been in touch with families to arrange for a time to visit each child in their own home. This visit allows both parents and children to meet the teacher individually, ask questions and talk about the approaching school year in the comfort of their own home. She will bring a special craft or activity to work on with the new student during her visit. We find this unique home visit practice helps to alleviate any anxieties that children might have about starting school and gets them excited about the journey ahead. If for some reason you have not received contact about this, please call or email our office.
Split Entry: We also invite only half of the class at a time for their first day of school. This split entry allows children more individual time with the teacher and provides everyone with the opportunity to get established and explore the classroom in a less chaotic environment. Staggered entry takes place on Wednesday September 4 and Thursday September 5. Our full class joins us on Friday the 6th.
Class Times: Class times are new: 8:50 – 11:40.
What to Bring: Children should bring a snack for each day, a backpack and a pair of indoor shoes that can be left at school. Our program provides all other supplies.
Contact Us: Our office is closed through the summer, but you can reach us through our email at dcakids@telus.net or call us at (403) 288-1050. Messages are being checked weekly through the summer months.
Out of School Care: This program, located in the same building as our program, is arranged separately through the Dalhousie Community Association (403 286-2555) with their information available at www.dalhousiecalgary.ca
